Parents of Vision Group Guidelines and Principles
Every support group has a code of rules or guidelines to ensure a safe and respectful environment for everyone. Since the Parents of Vision is a faith-based support group, our guidelines and principles are based on the Christian values presented in the Bible. The popular scripture about LOVE from 1Corinthians 13:4-8 is the basis for our meeting guidelines:
Love…
- IS PATIENT – while you may be a veteran at this, others here may be new to this journey
- IS KIND – empathize with each other
- DOES NOT ENVY – recognize that MY child has strong points too!
- DOES NOT BOAST – let’s NOT hide behind what is going well and deny our needs
- IS NOT PROUD – be willing to hear what others may have to offer; don’t monopolize or
control the conversation - DOES NOT DISHONOR OTHERS – this is not a place to tear down anyone (especially a doctor, school district, or anyone you have felt didn’t treat you right or fairly)
- IS NOT SELF-SEEKING – we are here not only because we want help for our own families, but also because we want to help each other
- IS NOT EASILY ANGERED – we strive to listen more and maintain control of our negative emotions
- KEEPS NO RECORD OF WRONGS – keep it in the here and now; focus on the present
- DOES NOT DELIGHT IN EVIL – we are determined to fight stigma and discrimination
- REJOICES WITH THE TRUTH – respect that everyone here has a right to their own opinion
- ALWAYS PROTECTS – maintain the confidentiality of this group – what we discuss here,
stays here - ALWAYS TRUSTS – trust that all people in this group are here to help, and trust God that
He has a plan for you and your family - ALWAYS HOPES – never, never give up hope!
- ALWAYS PERSEVERES – this group is for sharing the challenges AND the victories
- LOVE NEVER FAILS!!!
